her story

dot is the moniker of producer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist Kate Ellwanger — an artist, educator, and creative force at the intersection of electronic music, outdoor exploration, and psychospiritual study.

As one of the most dynamic voices in modern electronic production, dot has carved out a signature sound where emotional depth meets technical precision, weaving lush sound design, cinematic harmony, and intimate songwriting. Her discography spans acclaimed releases on mau5trap, Sable Valley, bitbird, Insomniac Records, Alt Vision, and Alpha Pup Records, amassing millions of streams and earning recognition across both underground and mainstream electronic circles.

A veteran performer, dot has appeared on some of the world’s most celebrated stages, including Red Rocks Amphitheatre, EDC Las Vegas, HARD Summer, X Games, and leading venues such as Echostage and Exchange LA. Whether in a 10,000-person festival crowd or an off-grid popup powered by Tonka the Delica, her performances fuse genre-bending vocals and cutting-edge electronic production into a captivating experience.

dot’s educational foundation is equally robust: a classically trained vocalist and pianist, she holds a B.A. in Music from Chapman University and a Master’s in Music Production from Berklee College of Music. She has spent over a decade teaching and mentoring the next generation of artists, with faculty and instructor roles at the Los Angeles Recording School, Point Blank Music School, and Dubspot. Her impact extends beyond the classroom through her creative mentorship programs, label, and professional development offerings for emerging artists.

As the founder of Unspeakable Records and Sage Hill Studio, dot has become a leading advocate for gender equity in music production, using her platforms to amplify independent voices and create accessible pathways for women, nonbinary creators, and underrepresented artists.

Parallel to her artistic career, dot has dedicated the last 15 years to psychospiritual study, meditation, and personal development, work that profoundly shapes her creative philosophy and her approach to teaching. She plans to continue this path academically by returning to school to become a clinical therapist—merging music, psychology, and somatic practice into a holistic framework for artistic empowerment.

Originally from Olympia, Washington, dot spent much of her youth in Idaho’s Wood River Valley, where her connection to the outdoors became inseparable from her creative identity. Now based in Sun Valley, she is an avid trail runner, backcountry skier, and endurance athlete, including competing in the 2021 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships.

With over a decade of boundary-pushing releases and a continuously evolving interdisciplinary practice, dot remains devoted to expanding what modern electronic music can sound like—and what a creative life can feel like. Her work is guided by curiosity, devotion to craft, and an unwavering commitment to supporting artists in finding their own voice, truth, and path.
